This is my technique I use to get that neat effect where a bright light source starts getting cut off by something and leaves a cool shaft of light instead of a big flare.

It is the same effect I used in my Landscape painting of Arana. here: [link]

This is my first tutorial so I'm sorry if anything doesn't work out so well.

This worked out really great. Just tried it today, and it's a LOT faster than doing this: [link]

Granted the window is easy, but the bat...lady..thing..had me pulling my hair out.

THAT technique seems to be a bit more atmospheric and realistic but, yes, I tried something similar in the past and it requires more patience than I care to commit.

My is more of a shortcut and only works when the light source is visible in the composition and is emanating toward the viewer.
